The Honda P-NUT Concept (Personal-Neo Urban Transport) demonstrates a futuristic concept for an ultra-compact and sophisticated city coupe, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Conceived around a small "footprint" for maximum convenience in tight urban settings, the packaging concept integrates a center driving position configuration and a rear powertrain layout. The exterior styling leverages crisp angles with dynamic flowing lines that originate from the front of the vehicle and span outward toward the rear. The end result is a sleek and aggressive exterior that also allows for a spacious and open interior with excellent visibility.

The exterior styling is intended to capture a future direction for premium sophistication while balancing the need for maximum interior space and an aerodynamic appearance. The interior layout, in conjunction with the rear powertrain design, contributes prominently to the exterior's overall shape.

The layout of the interior space, with its center driving position flanked by two rear seats, provides generous legroom for all occupants, roughly the equivalent of a mid-sized sedan in a vehicle that has an exterior footprint similar to a micro car. Interior functionality is increased by rear seating areas that fold up and out of the way to increase storage capacity. The windshield serves as a heads-up display for the navigation system and the back-up camera.

The modular rear engine bay, depicted on the exterior by blue composite material, is designed to accommodate a wide variety of potential propulsion technologies including a conventional small displacement internal combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or a battery-electric powertrain.

The Advanced Design Studio of Honda R&D Americas, Inc. in Los Angeles developed the Honda P-NUT Concept. Honda R&D Americas began its operations in California in 1975 with local market research activities and has steadily grown its capabilities over the past 33 years to include all aspects of new vehicle research, design and development. Recent Honda-brand efforts include trend-setting products such as the Pilot, Ridgeline, Element, Civic Coupe and Civic Si Coupe.

A V-6 engine introduces the latest generation of Honda fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) technology that operates in 6-cylinder mode for power and 4- and 3-cylinder modes for efficiency, an improvement compared to the existing Pilot's available VCM system that works exclusively in 6- and 3-cylinder modes.

The three rows of seats provide a high degree of adaptability for people and large cargo loads. The first row provides a commanding view of the road from two captains' chairs. A wide center stack and center console form the styling anchor for the interior with a design that emphasizes spaciousness and power, while allowing for convenient access to navigation, entertainment and climate-control systems.
The 60/40 split second row, more spacious, slides further forward for increased ease of access to the third row. The 60/40 split third row, now supplies enough knee room for an above-average-sized adult male to fit comfortably, making the Pilot's third row among the most practical in the industry. Each side of the second and third row independently folds down for cargo. A flat floor is created when the second and third rows are folded down.

Honda 3R-C Concept, a revolutionary three wheeled battery electric vehicle concept, shows what a future minimal urban transport vehicle for one person might look like. The battery electric drivetrain is mounted low in the three wheeled chassis, therefore keeping the centre of gravity low and thus improving stability.

The Honda 3R-C Concept has a clear canopy that covers the driver's seat while it is parked and not in use. When 3R-C vehicle is in motion, the canopy becomes an enveloping wind-shield that provides the pilot, who sits low in the vehicle, with significant protection from the bodywork and doors.

The high sides of the safety shell seat give greater safety to the occupant, reducing the threat from side impacts and improving weather protection. In front of the driver is a lockable boot area, which gives significant secure storage for luggage or other items. The Honda 3R-C Concept's designers created a flexible cover that surrounds the upper torso to reduce exposure to bad weather and improving comfort.

Completely redesigned for 2008 with increased dimensions for a more spacious interior, the sedan styling theme expresses a powerful presence with sharp and strong character lines. The Accord is available in sedan and coupe body styles with 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V-6 engine choices. Available transmissions include a 5-speed manual (standard with all 4-cylinder engines), a 5-speed automatic (standard on sedan V-6 models, available with all 4-cylinder engines and V-6-powered Accord Coupes,) and a 6-speed manual transmission (exclusive to the Accord Coupe EX-L V-6 6MT).

Sedan trim levels range from the well-equipped Accord Sedan LX and plus-featured LX-P (177-horsepower 4-cylinder engine), to the nicely-equipped Accord Sedan EX (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or 268-horsepower V-6 engine), to the premium and upscale Accord Sedan EX-L (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or 268-horsepower V-6 engine). Coupe trim levels range from the well-equipped Accord Coupe LX-S (190 horsepower 4-cylinder engine), to the nicely-equipped Accord Coupe EX (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine) to the premium and upscale Accord Coupe EX-L (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or 268-horsepower V-6 engine).

Interior
Premium quality with a simple, modern and spacious design describes the philosophy behind the Accord's interior. The larger Accord Sedan total interior volume of 120.0 cubic feet (+3.3 cubic feet compared to 2007) moves the EPA classification from the midsize sedan class to the large sedan class. The additional space is intended to provide "equal" seating comfort for front and rear passengers. Rear legroom of 37.2 inches (+0.4 inches) approaches the impressive second row legroom of the Honda Pilot SUV (37.4 inches). The wider interior (+1.5 inches) allows the front seats to be positioned farther apart to allow for a wide center console more commonly associated with the finest luxury vehicles.

The Accord interior is designed for a dynamic, intuitive and upscale presence, starting with an easy-to-read information display on every vehicle. A zone styling approach separates operation-related instruments (top) and information-related instruments (lower). At night, the controls are further separated by color to distinguish between climate controls (aqua green) and audio controls (white). Classically-styled gauges for the speedometer and tachometer are perfectly round (instead of being truncated at the bottom). Steering wheel audio controls are standard on every Accord. Careful attention was paid to the symmetry of the exterior and interior of the vehicle - including sight lines related to the dashboard height and the visual presence of the hood to the driver.

Redesigned front bucket seats are larger, and feature substantial lateral support to complement the Accord's sporting side. The fold-down lockable rear seatback increases cargo-carrying versatility; the sedan includes a lockable pass-through.

Exterior
Intended to convey a prestigious presence, the Accord Sedan embraces a traditional three-box shape that emphasizes both a dynamic and athletic feel with the sophistication of a timeless sedan form. Dimensionally, the Accord Sedan's overall length of 194.1 inches (4-cylinder models, V-6 models add 0.2 inches for front spoiler lip) is 3.0 inches longer than the 2007 model. The width of 72.7 inches is 1.1 inches wider, and the height of 58.1 inches is 0.9 inches taller. Even though the size is larger in every dimension, the vehicle's torsional rigidity has increased by 20 percent as a result of advanced body construction that uses 48 percent high-tensile steel - the most high-tensile steel by volume of any Accord to date. A significant benefit to the advanced body construction is that total vehicle weight increased only by approximately 5 percent despite the larger size, greater rigidity and added features.

The Accord Coupe styling radically breaks from the sedan with a uniquely aggressive image. Its long hood, sleek roofline and muscular lines suggest power and a heightened agility compared to the sedan. Dimensionally, the Accord Coupe's overall length of 190.9 inches is 3.2 inches longer than 2007 model, its width of 72.8 inches is 1.2 inches wider, and its height of 56.4 inches is 0.6 (LX-S) to 0.7 (EX, EX-L) inches higher. Compared to the 2008 Accord Sedan, the Accord Coupe is 3.2 inches shorter in length, 1.7 inches shorter in height and 0.1-inch wider.

(PhysOrg.com) -- By looking far out into space and observing what’s going on there, scientists have been led to theorize that it all started with a Big Bang, immediately followed by a brief period of super-accelerated expansion called inflation. Perhaps this was the beginning of everything, but lately a few scientists have been wondering if something could have come before that, setting up the initial conditions for the birth of our universe.

In the most recent study on pre-Big Bang science posted at arXiv.org, a team of researchers from the UK, Canada, and the US, Stephen M. Feeney, et al, have revealed that they have discovered four statistically unlikely circular patterns in the (CMB). The researchers think that these marks could be “bruises” that our universe has incurred from being bumped four times by other universes. If they turn out to be correct, it would be the first evidence that universes other than ours do exist.

The idea that there are many other universes out there is not new, as scientists have previously suggested that we live in a “multiverse” consisting of an infinite number of universes. The multiverse concept stems from the idea of eternal inflation, in which the inflationary period that our universe went through right after the Big Bang was just one of many inflationary periods that different parts of space were and are still undergoing. When one part of space undergoes one of these dramatic growth spurts, it balloons into its own universe with its own physical properties. As its name suggests, eternal inflation occurs an infinite number of times, creating an infinite number of universes, resulting in the multiverse.

These infinite universes are sometimes called bubble universes even though they are irregular-shaped, not round. The bubble universes can move around and occasionally collide with other bubble universes. As Feeney, et al., explain in their paper, these collisions produce inhomogeneities in the inner-bubble cosmology, which could appear in the CMB. The scientists developed an algorithm to search for bubble collisions in the CMB with specific properties, which led them to find the four circular patterns.

Still, the scientists acknowledge that it is rather easy to find a variety of statistically unlikely properties in a large dataset like the CMB. The researchers emphasize that more work is needed to confirm this claim, which could come in short time from the Planck satellite, which has a resolution three times better than that of WMAP (where the current data comes from), as well as an order of magnitude greater sensitivity. Nevertheless, they hope that the search for bubble collisions could provide some insight into the history of our universe, whether or not the collisions turn out to be real.

“The conclusive non-detection of a bubble collision can be used to place stringent limits on theories giving rise to eternal inflation; however, if a bubble collision is verified by future data, then we will gain an insight not only into our own but a multiverse beyond,” the researchers write in their study.

This is the second study in the past month that has used CMB data to search for what could have occurred before the Big Bang. In the first study, Roger Penrose and Vahe Gurzadyan found concentric circles with lower-than-average temperature variation in the CMB, which could be evidence for a cyclic cosmology in which Big Bangs occur over and over.

Jakarta - Fenomena crop circle rupanya terjadi hingga sampai ke Magelang. Penduduk di Dusun Kumbangan, Desa Banyusari, Tegalrejo menemukan pola crop circle, mirip seperti di Sleman. Namun bentuknya lebih kecil.

Pantauan detikcom di lokasi, Minggu (30/1/2011) mirip seperti di Sleman, ada padi yang rebah dan juga terbentuk 5 lubang. Paling besar adalah lubang di tengah yang besarnya 2,5 meter, sedang lubang lain yang mengapitnya berdiameter 1,5 meter.

Lokasi crop circle itu persis berada di belakang pesantren Hidayatul Muhtadiin, hanya berjarak 100 meter. Lokasi crop circle itu ditemukan sekitar pukul 07.00 WIB oleh Muhaimin seorang santri ponpes.

"Saat itu saya mau ke sawah ke ladang padi, terus ada seperti ini," jelasnya di lokasi.

Muhaimin pun segera memberitahu teman-teman di pondok. Sontak kabar itu pun segera menyebar dari mulut ke mulut. Tidak heran, sejak pagi ratusan warga mendatangi lokasi itu.

Mereka memenuhi pematang sawah di sekitar crop circle. Untuk melihat pemandangan itu, warga tidak perlu menaiki sebuah pohon atau bukit, mereka bisa melihat melalui tanggul sawah yang lain. Kebetulan lokasi crop circle itu lebih rendah dari sawah lainnya.

Sementara itu petugas kepolisian juga sudah memasang garis polisi di sepanjang crop circle. Warga pun diminta untuk tidak mendekat. (ndr/ndr)

Magelang - Fenomena crop circle muncul di beberapa tempat di Indonesia. Diawali dari Sleman, Bantul, kemudian kini muncul di Tegalrejo, Magelang. Untuk kasus di Magelang ini, seorang santri mengaku melihat fenomena aneh pada malam sebelum crop circle ditemukan.

"Jadi teman saya Irvan, malam itu dia mau ke sungai. Nah saat itu dia melihat ada angin kencang di sekitar ladang itu," kata Muhaimin (20) santri Ponpes Hidayatul Muhtadiin saat ditemui di lokasi, Minggu (30/1/2011).

Irvan, melihat pusaran angin kencang itu sekitar pukul 20.00 WIB, Sabtu (29/1). Saat melihat angin kencang itu dia segera berlari kembali ke pondok, yang hanya berjarak 100 meter dari lokasi.

"Dia datang ke pondok terus cerita, saat itu dia ketakutan," imbuh Muhaimin.

Penasaran dengan kejadian pada malam itu, pagi harinya Muhaimin mendatangi lokasi. Alangkah kagetnya dia, saat itu menemukan pola crop circle seperti di Sleman.

"Saya langsung beritahu teman-teman dan warga," tambahnya.

VIVAnews - NASA lagi-lagi mencatat sejarah baru. Kali ini badan antariksa asal Amerika Serikat itu berhasil menciptakan pesawat ruang angkasa pertama yang berbasis tenaga surya.

Awalnya memang terdengar seperti cuplikan cerita fiksi ilmiah. Tapi, kini NASA telah membuat pesawat ruang angkasa tak berawak tanpa bahan bakar mineral.

Tak seperti pesawat ruang angkasa lainnya, NanoSail-D yang menyerupai bentuk layangan berukuran relatif lebih kecil dan orbitnya tidak terlalu tinggi dari atas permukaan Bumi.

NanoSail-D menggunakan tekanan radiasi matahari untuk membuatnya bergerak dan terbang dengan kecepatan tinggi. NASA mengatakan bahwa satelit mungil ini hanya sebesar 100 kaki persegi dan beroperasi sesuai rencana.

Sebetulnya NanoSail-D telah dilepas ke angkasa sejak 20 Januari 2011 lalu. Namun, hari itu tidak bisa dijadikan sebagai hari pertama ia terbang sampai NASA berhasil menerima frekuensi berupa paket data dari NanoSail-D, yakni lima hari setelahnya.

"Ini adalah kali pertama NASA meluncurkan pesawat ruang angkasa dengan orbit terendah di permukaan Bumi," kata Dean Alhorn, jurubicara NASA, yang dikutip VIVAnews dari Dailymail, Sabtu 29 Januari 2011.

NanoSail-D, pesawat satelit NASA berbasis tenaga suryaNanoSail-D akan terus mengirim sinyal suar hingga baterai di dalamnya habis. Diperkirakan ia akan terbang mengorbiti Bumi sampai 70-120 hari ke depan, tergantung pada kondisi atmosfer.

NanoSail-D sengaja dirancang untuk sebagai demonstrasi teknologi berbasis tenaga surya untuk pesawat ruang angkasa. Jika berhasil, teknologi ini diharapkan dapat menjadi alternatif lain dalam teknologi pengorbitan.

Jakarta - Peneliti Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (LAPAN) menemukan aktivitas matahari mulai meningkat saat ini. Aktivitas ini ditandai dengan banyaknya sunspot (bintik hitam).

Namun, peningkatan ini tidak terlalu signifikan karena sunspot yang muncul kemudian menghilang dalam beberapa hari.

"Fase minimun yang relatif lebih panjang dari siklus-siklus sebelumnya memberikan indikasi bahwa siklus matahari memasuki suatu anomali," ujar Kepala Bidang Matahari dan Antariksa Lapan, Bachtiar Anwar, dalam rilis LAPAN yang diterima detikcom, Kamis (3/6/2010).

Dengan demikian, jelas Bactiar, puncak aktivitas matahari yang sebelumnya diperkirakan terjadi pada 2012, kini diprediksi akan terjadi pada Juni 2014.

Namun menurut Bachtiar, energi yang dilepaskan dalam bentuk badai matahari ini tidak akan terlalu dahsyat. Berdasarkan observasi, badai matahari dahsyat pada siklus ke-24 diperkirakan akan terjadi setelah puncak aktivitas atau ketika fase turun yaitu pada 2015 - 2016.

Tapi jangan kuatir, dampak langsung badai matahari juga tidak terlalu dirasakan bagi kawasan Indonesia. Dari hasil simulasi peneliti LAPAN, Bambang Setiadi, ditemukan bahwa makin besar badai matahari yang datang, makin tebal perisai magnetosfer.

"Bumi ternyata memiliki medan magnet yang dapat berperilaku sebagai perisai ketika badai matahari menerpa bumi," tuturnya.

Jakarta - Pelangi yang mengelilingi matahari terlihat jelas siang ini di langit Depok dan Bekasi. Fenomena Halo pun sempat disaksikan beberapa warga, yang langsung keluar dari rumah mereka.

Seperti disampaikan pembaca detikcom, Choiri Setiawan dalam surat elektroniknya yang diterima Minggu (30/1/2011), pemandangan fenomena hallo terlihat jelas di sekitar Depok dan Jakarta Selatan.

"Pagi ini pemandangan langit sekitar Depok dan Jaksel terlihat lebih mencekam dengan adanya fenomena halo yang terlihat , hallo matahari ini terlihat mulai jam 08.30 WIB pagi tadi," urai Choiri.

Fenomena Halo juga disaksikan Erland Berlian, warga Kemang Pratama, Bekasi. Fenomena itu tampak jelas disaksikan dengan mata terbuka.

Halo merupakan fenomena alam biasa berupa cahaya yang mengelilingi matahari. Kejadian ini merupakan hasil pembelokan cahaya matahari oleh partikel uap air di atmosfer. Namun awas, jangan mencoba melihatnya langsung dengan mata telanjang.

Jakarta - Sebelum dilempar ke pasaran, baik prosesor atau kartu grafis AMD yang beredar di Indonesia terlebih dahulu melalui pengujian pada salah satu pabriknya di Singapura. Bagaimana prosesnya?

Meski bermarkas di Amerika Serikat, namun AMD memiliki beberapa pabrikam di berbagai belahan dunia. Salah satunya di Singapura dimana tempat tersebut bertugas untuk menguji tiap prosesor dan kartu grafis sebelum dilempar ke pasar Asia Pasifik.

detikINET, bersama beberapa wartawan lain dari kawasan Asia Pasific, berkesempatan untuk melihat langsung bagaimana proses pengerjaan di pabrik tersebut. Seperti apa?

Packaging Pabrik AMD di Singapura tidak bertugas untuk membuat prosesor, namun di dalamnya tetap melakukan beberapa proses penting seperti menyatukan sebuah core ke dalam 'rumahnya'.

Ya, usai mendapat core untuk diproduksi, pabrik di Singapura harus menempatkan tiap core tersebut hingga menjadi kesatuan prosesor. Proses ini terbilang cukup rumit, oleh karena itu dibutuhkan sebuah mesin yang berukuran raksasa untuk melakukannya.

Pengujian Setelah sudah berwujud prosesor, core tersebut kemudian mengalami beberapa proses lebih lanjut seperti pembatasan kecepatan, atau penentuan jumlah core yang ada di dalam produk tersebut. Yuk, dibahas satu persatu.

Pengetesan pertama adalah pengujian daya tahan panas. Tiap prosesor digeber dengan mesin khusus untuk memastikan panas yang ditimbulkan tidak berlebihan. Ini dilakukan agar prosesor tidak mengalami overheat meski dipakai nonstop.

Lalu pengujian berlanjut dengan simulasi fitur yang dijalankan oleh mesin khusus. Ini dilakukan untuk memamstikan agat setiap fitur yang dibenamkan dalam prosesor dapat berjalan dengan baik.

Setelah semua itu selesai, AMD melanjutkan ketahap pengujian dengan menggunakan aplikasi sehari-hari seperti mengolah data aplikasi kantoran atau bermain game.

Namun lagi-lagi yang menguji tersebut adalah sebuah mesin khusus yang sudah ditanamkan simulasi program yang biasa digunakan pengguna komputer. Konon, setiap prosesor memakan waktu beberapa jam selama pengujian.

Polesan Akhir

Usai melewati semua pengujian, masing-masing prosesor akan masuk ke sebuah mesin untuk menentukan kecepatan yang diusungnya. Jadi, meski berbeda kecepatan namun sejatinya prosesor AMD terbuat dari'bahan'.

"Kecepatan tiap prosesor ditentukan sesuai dengan daya tahannya. Namun kami juga memproduksi prosesor yang kecepatannya tidak di 'kunci', yakni seri BlackEdition," jelas salah satu pegawai AMD.

Setelah itu, baru tiap prosesor dilabeli sesuai dengan namanya masing-masing. Proses ini menggunakan mesin laser khusus yang mampu menulis dengan cepat.

Baik untuk CPU atau pun GPU sama-sama mengalami proses pengerjaan yang mirip. Semua itu dilakukan dengan tujuan, memastikan setiap produk yang diluncurkan sudah layak pakai dan memiliki daya tahan yang sesuai.

Sayangnya, AMD tidak memperkenankan setiap wartawan untuk mengambil foto dari tiap-tiap proses.
